Rheophytic Adaptation of Eurya Japonica Thunb. (Ternstroemiaceae)

چکیده

Plants along rivers have narrow leaves to avoid the stress caused by river’s flow during flooding. that undergone such morphological leaf modifications adapt are called rheophytes. Some populations of Eurya japonica Thunb. (Ternstroemiaceae) were grown on riversides so comparative morphology and anatomy between riverside inland (control) could be examined confirm their rheophytic speciation. Our anatomical analyses revealed E. in was significantly smaller than due decreased number cells; therefore, pattern differentiation not stenophyllization but miniaturization leaf. Moreover, our results indicated this species had thicker higher density stomata those populations, suggesting been morphologically modified response light water environments river.

Characteristic odor components of essential oils from Eurya japonica.

The chemical compositions of essential oils from the flower and aerial parts (i.e., leaf and branch) of Eurya japonica were determined and quantified using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). A total of 87 and 50 compounds were detected in the oils from the flower and aerial parts, respectively. The main compounds of the flower oil were linalool (14.0%), (9Z)-tricosene (12.0%), and no...

Sex change in the subdioecious shrub Eurya japonica (Pentaphylacaceae)

Sex change affects the sex ratios of plant populations and may play an essential role in the evolutionary shift of sexual systems. Sex change can be a strategy for increasing fitness over the lifetime of a plant, and plant size, environmental factors, and growth rate may affect sex change. We described frequent, repeated sex changes following various patterns in a subdioecious Eurya japonica po...

Hormetic Responses of Lonicera Japonica Thunb. To Cadmium Stress

The hormetic responses of Lonicera japonica Thunb. to cadmium (Cd) stress were investigated in a hydroponic experiment. The present results showed that root length and total biomass dry weight increased in comparison with the control at low concentrations Cd. The height of the plant exposed to 2.5 and 5 mg L(-1) Cd increased significantly by 11.9% and 12.8% relative to the control, and with the...

Euscaphinin, a new ellagitannin dimer from Euscaphis japonica (THUNB.) KANITZ.

A new ellagitannin dimer named euscaphinin was isolated from the leaves of Euscaphis japonica (THUNB.) KANITZ. The structure of this dimer was determined on the basis of spectroscopic and chemical evidence. The resulting structure indicated that it was produced by intermolecular C-O oxidative coupling between the galloyl groups of molecules of 1(beta)-O-galloyl pedunculagin, the major ellagitan...
